In its capacity as a rich material on which numerous studies are based, the Holy Qur'anic text has been assigned a special care throughout Islamic history, thanks to the efforts of researchers and authors. On an even keel, kings and rulers were interested in Qur'anic fonts and were concerned with their aesthetic aspects; they patronized gifted scribes to create new splendid Qur'anic fonts.

However, authors and publishers in modern age have not been able to include the Qur'anic verses in documents and personal writings, except in normal fonts, which lack many of the aesthetic aspects that the `Uthmanic calligraphy has. This has resulted in some instances of text distortions, confusion of reading or drops of certain items.

For this reason, Harf has deemed that it is the right of every Muslim to have the capability of desktop publishing of the entire Qur'anic text; and has developed Al-Mushaf (for Desktop Publishing) program that enables the users to include any portion of the Qur'anic text with `Uthmanic calligraphy in documents, and text files while preserving its characters and the lovely formats of the `Uthmanic fonts.

Inside Al-Mushaf (for Desktop Publishing):

• Adding Qur'anic text to mail messages and personal documents, enabling certain format options such as modification of words and characters' formats to suit the print papers.

• Publishing and printing the entire Qur'anic text as a Microsoft Word Document, with easy modification of the formats of words in order to repaginate lines and paragraphs

• Capability of text coloring of difficult words and adding their explanation as footnotes

• The ability to select a given word and locate its occurrences inside the entire Qur'anic text

  

• Display of the Qur'anic page in accordance with the King Fahd edition

• Playing the audio recitation of the Qur'anic text while copying it to Microsoft Word

• Alteration between the recitations of Shaikhs Al-Hudhaifi and Muhammad Aiyub

• Controlling the format of the displayed document

• Ability to add Tafsir of Al-Jalalain or Al-Muntakhab below the copied verse or as a footnote

• Ability to insert the translation of the displayed verse directly below it or as a footnote

• Ability to insert the transliteration of the displayed verse directly below it or as a footnote

• Ability to copy the Qur'anic text as a normal text to any text editor other than Microsoft Word or as a GIF format image to be used in web electronic publishing.
