GSA Contract Application Tips to Make the Process Easier

If you are planning to apply for a GSA schedule contract, here are few important tips that are sure to prove helpful in the process:

  • The first thing that you must concentrate on is choosing the right federal government contract to pursue. You are likely to spend a large amount of time and effort in preparing the allocation and obtaining the contract. It only makes sense that you choose one, strategically. Some things you can consider are the contracts that your competitors might have won, the GSA contracts which show a high amount of activity, or the time taken for different contracts to get approval.
  • Do not make the mistake of trying to apply for too many SINs. This will reap no benefits in the long run and you will end up wasting a lot of time writing proposal material for areas that you may not have appropriate experience in. This will delay your submission. The best option is to focus on a few SINs on which you have specialized knowledge.
  • Give some serious thought to the SINs you will be choosing.  Many a times it is seen that a SIN that looks perfect for a particular business ends up being not that suited to it while an irrelevant one might be the best choice. Do your research and find out more about how the federal government contract works in the real world.
  • GSA issues a different RFP for each of the schedules which might be revised often. The GSA may not issue any advance notice about the decision to refresh an RFP and it is completely your responsibility to keep checking for updates.

Lastly, keep in mind that one of the clinching factors that will decide if you get the contract in the end or not is whether GSA considers you to be a safe buy. Make them see that apart from being a quality service provider, you will also adhere to rules.
